VoluntariadoVolunteer with CCATE — every class here is taught by someone who chose to share what they know

Help with homework, lead a reading group, teach a class you love, or bring your professional skills. Volunteers are part of the CCATE family.

High school volunteers

Teens volunteer with the younger children during the school year and as summer camp counselors. We ask for camp-counselor energy: warm, engaged and focused on the kids.

Lo que esperamosWhat we ask of every volunteer

  • Show up consistently. Children notice who comes back. Tell us ahead of time if you can’t make it.
  • Put the phone away while you’re with students — we ask the same of them.
  • Come to the start-of-semester volunteer meeting and read our protocols, including safety and emergency procedures.
  • Learn with us. We are all students and all teachers. Spanish is welcome but not required.

AutorizacionesPennsylvania child-protection clearances

Every adult who volunteers with children must submit three Pennsylvania clearances before starting. We will guide you through the process.

Act 34PA State Police criminal history
Act 151PA child abuse history
Act 114FBI fingerprint check

Adult-program and remote volunteers may not need all three — ask us.

Cómo empezarFive steps from here to your first afternoon

  1. Fill out the form — tell us what you’d like to do and when you’re free.
  2. We reply within three days to find the right fit.
  3. Submit your clearances (if you’ll work with children).
  4. Join the volunteer orientation at the start of the semester.
  5. Start — and meet the students.
